What's uuuuuuuuuuuuup? Yes, I'm back, writing nonsense again... don't act like you're surprised, you know me very well :) As I've mentioned in the past, I'm not writing as often as before, due to video updates, but that doesn't mean I won't be writing down my crazy thoughts anymore. So, what's new? Well, many new things since my last update, but the more recent one is the release of a new pin-up piece, and I want to focus on that for this blog update. This digital painting is based on the beautiful Joanna Angel, a mega porn star and a legend in the adult industry. She created and still owns website/studio "Burning Angel", which features alt-porn, filled with alternate models. Think of tattoos, punk culture, sexy girls... and of course, porn. I personally admire her company and her approach to the subject of adult content, because it reflects a very artistic view, always thinking outside the box. Rendering a pin-up of Joanna Angel is something I wanted to do for a long time. However, as it often happens when it comes to my artwork, I wasn't able to do this image until this year. The timing has to be right in order to be able to deliver artwork with the proper quality. As an example of this, It comes to my mind the pin-up I recently did of Gianna Michaels: even though I obtained her permission to do a painting of hers years ago, it wasn't until this year that I finally rendered a pin-up of her. The fore mentioned pin-up of Joanna Angel is no different: it took me years to get around and do it, but I am really happy with the result. I am also happy that the skills I learned and the tricks I picked up during the last few years, are reflected in this piece. When I mentioned that I learned new skills and tricks, that's truly the way it goes for artists and their work. The latter reflects the life of the former... and I am not the exception. By this, I'm alluring to the fact that our experiences in life always add to our painting, performing, writing, etc., skills. Seeing the final result of my latest painting reinforces once again that idea in my mind. So, it seems this was the right time to do Joanna's painting. From the technical point of view, I was able to render a more accurate and natural representation of her body. If you've been following my work, you probably noticed that I'm constantly sketching. These sketches not only keep my drawing skills fresh, but also improve them (as long as I keep pushing myself). The result, hopefully, is a better crafted drawing, more natural, more anatomically correct. On top of a decent drawing, I was also able to render the colors in a much better way that I would have done years ago. This in particular came in very handy, in order to portray Joanna's skin tones and of course, her beautiful tattoos. Because I've learning new skills and tricks, I must be quicker at rendering my paintings, right? Well, the answer is yes and no. I've been asked many times about how long it takes me to finish a painting. After answering that question several times during the last few years, I've noticed that I spend roughly the same time that I used to spend years ago. At first, learning this fact puzzled me, since I know that I've improved myself, not only in quality, but also speed. So, how is it that I still take the same amount of time for one single painting, if I can now paint faster and better? The answer is easy: nowadays I just paint with much more detail than before. So, even though I spend the same amount of time as I did back in the day, the final result is much more complex. I don't really strive to paint faster, but rather include more detail in the same length of painting time. On that note, I guess I'll take the same amount of hours to finish a painting, for the rest of my life. :) I don't know if I'll keep improving my skills when it comes to painting, I do certainly hope so. But I do know that I'll keep doing the same thing that I've done from the beginning: giving it my best. At the end, that's what makes me proud of my artwork, and on that statement I include my old pieces. These old images might not be as "sophisticated" as my latest work, but they do reflect the best quality I could provide back then. Same as my current work reflects the best I can deliver at this moment. Will these skills be improved in the future? Again, I certainly hope so. Thanks again for reading one more of my ramblings, and of course, thank you also for your support. It's my pleasure to be able to share my work with the world, but the support given from all the people that like it makes it even more enjoyable. By the way, remember that you can support my work directly, by becoming a patron of my artwork. Join me in my artistic journey by visiting patreon.com/popeyewongart. Last but not least, I'm posting the finished version of Joanna's pin-up, along with a short video that shows a bit of the rendering process.
